Since April 2022, Ambassador Pedro Lourtie is the Permanent Representative of Portugal to the European Union.
He has a long diplomatic career, which started in 1995 and lead him to several important roles, namely as Deputy Permanent Representative of Portugal to the EU (2016-2022), Ambassador of Portugal in Tunisia (2015-2016), Consul General of Portugal in Paris (2012-2015) and Political Counsellor at the Delegation of the European Commission in Washington DC (2004-2005).
Pedro Lourtie has been Secretary of State for European Affairs of Portugal (October 2009 – June 2011) and served as the Chief of Staff of the Prime-Minister’s Office (2006-2009) and as his Diplomatic Adviser (2005 and 2006).
He has a Master of Arts in European Economic Studies from the College of Europe (Bruges) and a Degree in Economics from the ISEG – University of Lisbon.
